Reflection of Senior Year English

Walking into this class, I wasn’t sure what to expect; I barely knew anyone in this class and was filled with apprehension about tackling hard pieces of literature. However, these feelings of uneasiness dissipated after “convincing” Suhavi and Audrey to join our pod. From the outside looking in, it’s hard to understand how this group came to be—we all came from different friend groups and barely knew each other (or as Audrey likes to call it “friend adjacents”). Nonetheless, this hour quickly transformed into an oasis of excitement during my mundane senior year. Throughout the year, we read book club books, developed inside jokes, and worked on group projects together. Despite our (many) highs and lows, I truly hope that the five of us can keep in contact and hang out over the summer.

Besides meeting new people, I also learned a lot of literary skills that I hope to apply in my real life. Whether it’s learning about how the environment affects one’s upbringing or seeing the world through the eyes of a monk, this class has taught me to challenge the conventional and look through various lenses. Moreover, AP Lit has shown me how diverse literature can be. Waiting for Godot will continue to inspire me to write about the absurd; it has motivated me to explore preposterous subjects and add twists upon twists to divert the audience’s attention. I continue to strive to live life like Santiago from The Alchemist and search for my personal legend. As I head to college, I hope to utilize the various skills I’ve obtained in this class and employ them while I read classics in future classes.
